After I was back from Ranchi I was shocked to see the kind of work I had. Most of my team members were not in office and I did not know what to do. For a moment I thought ‘why am I back to office.’ But yes there was no running away.
After seeing the workload the first thing that came to my mind was that my daily routine will not help me finish the work the way I want to finish it. I have to do something different. You cannot expect getting different results by doing the same thing. I looked at my daily activities and I was not sure what I could cut short or drop out to make my work life more productive. My agenda was packed. I could however think of focusing more. I then realized that I am pretty good at focusing also. Then how can I refine it further. How can I reduce my distractions? I then chose to keep myself away from G talk and gmail. I had to structure myself. I planned to sign into gmail once a day and no G talks for sure. When it comes to social networking sites I decided that they will also be visited just once a day. This was like a herculean task. But who said that life is fun without such tasks.
I started my day. Once a day gmail and no G talk. The problem is that whenever my system reboots I am automatically signed into G talk. And till someone does not ping me I don’t realize that I have signed in. Whenever someone would ping me I would realize the mistake and sign out immediately. To my surprise I managed to be much more productive than what I was and my tasks were also completed. My distractions reduced which in turn increased my work productivity. I realized it helps. It helps a lot. Try it.
